About Redmond:Redmond sits at the western edge of Oregon's high desert, just 4 miles from the Deschutes River, a half hour drive from the Cascade Mountains and within minutes of several lakes. This high desert community rests on a flat plateau at an elevation of 3,077 feet. There are currently approximately 20,000 residents living in Redmond, which is located 15 miles north of Bend. Redmond is home to a fast growing airport and is known as the Aviation Gateway to Central Oregon. Redmond is also home to the Deschutes County Fairgrounds, and there is word that a huge new water and wave park is being developed in the area. Just northeast of Redmond is Smith Rocks, a worldclass rock climbing area that overlooks the Crooked River. If you are not a rock climber, the Smith Rock area still provides wonderful hiking and sightseeing.
