DESCHUTES COUNTY PROPERTY TAXES:
The communities of Bend, Redmond, Sisters, Sunriver, Crosswater, Caldera Springs, Three Rivers South and La Pine are in Deschutes County.

In Oregon, property taxes are collected by the County and then are distributed to the various taxing districts which include schools, cities, county agencies, fire districts, road districts, etc.  The amount of property tax that each homeowner pays is determined based on the assessed value of the property, and the tax rates and bond debt service amount levied by the district in which the property is located.

Generally, increases in assessed value are limited to 3% unless changes have been made to the property due to ballot Measure 50 limitations.  The Deschutes County Assessor compares Real Market Value (how much the property is worth, determined by the Assessor, as of January 1 each year) to Maximum Assessed Value (the 1995 value reduced by ten percent, plus changes that were made to the property, increased by 3% each year after 1997).  The lower of these two values is the Assessed Value, and it is this figure that is used to calculate the property tax owed each year.  Below please note the 2006-2007 rates per $1000 assessed value for some specific communities within Deschutes County.

AREA                                   RATE (per $1000 assessed value)
     SUNRIVER                               13.4897
     CITY OF BEND                        14.9827
     CITY OF REDMOND                17.3246
     CITY OF SISTERS                   16.1817
     LA PINE AREA                          13.5672

Taxes may increase by more than 3% per year due to voter-approved ballot measures.  In addition, taxes may also increase or decrease due to other changes, such as the amount a district needs to pay for voter-approved bond debt, or property annexations.
