For the second consecutive year, Crosswater Golf Course and Sunriver Resort were the hosts of the Jeld Wen Tradition Golf Tournament. This is the championsip tournament for the Champions Tour. This year's tournament brought out the likes of Tom Kite, Jay Haas, Tom Watson & Bernahard Langer among the 68 professional 50 year and older professional players. The winner of this year's tournament was Fred Funk, who shot 19 below par over four days on what was called "7600 yards of manicured terror". The tournament will be back again in 2009 and is scheduled for August 17 - 23. This is a fantastic event for fans of all ages and is right in our back yard! For those unable to attend (over 30,000 came to the course to watch), all four rounds of this year's event was broadcast on national tv on the Golf Channel. NBC covered the final two rounds of 2007 (over 1 million viewers tuned in), but they were busy televising the Beijing Olympics this year. 2009's event will once again be on NBC. The beauty of Crosswater, which brings the Little Deschutes and Deschutes rivers into play on numerous holes and offers unobstructed views of the Cascade Mountains, are the views. "If you hit bad shots, you just look around and watch the river or the mountains, or the trees," said Langer, a German star who had never been to Oregon until this week. "It will put you in a little better mood."
For 12 years, Central Oregon has been host to the second largest ameteur golf tournament in the country. This hugely popular event is played on 8 great Central Oregon Golf Courses, including Sunriver's Woodlands and Meadows Courses. The Championsip round is played at Crosswater. Over 700 golfers play in this event and most of them have friends and family in attendance. This provides a positive economic impact for the area and showing off our community and the golf courses to this crowd is a good thing.
